Penetapan hari jumat sebagai hari matinya Yesus oleh Gereja Katolik sebelumnya adalah karena dikatakan bahwa besoknya adalah hari sabat (Yoh 19:31), dan hari minggu sebagai hari bangkitnya Yesus(Yoh 20:1).
